ECE – OAP Entry to School Program

Reporting to the Ontario Autism Program (OAP) Supervisor, this enthusiastic professional will be part of a multidisciplinary team that will provide a group-based learning environment for children with an Autism diagnosis as part of the OAP’s Entry to School Program. 

The group-based environment will be built on the elements of How Does Learning Happen, will provide routines similar to a kindergarten classroom, will incorporate a routines based model, and will include ABA based instructional techniques as part of the strength based multidisciplinary model. In collaboration with the child’s caregiver(s), this multidisciplinary team will identify goals for individualized programming that target skill-building within six developmental domains. 

Duties and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Working as a member of a multidisciplinary, collaborative team to plan implement and facilitate a dynamic group based program for children with ASD. 
  • Set-up of the group-based learning environment and program and completion of daily tasks including activity set up, disinfection, snack time.
  • Working in conjunction with a Behaviour Consultant to implement an individualized intervention program
  • Completion of data collection forms and documentation of child inquiries and interests as needed.
  • Support the planning and consultation with the School as needed, as part of the child’s transition to school.
  • Completion of developmental screening tools and assessments as needed.
  • As a member of the York Simcoe Autism Network (YSAN), participate in network training as requested.
  • Work locations may vary across Simcoe County and staff may be required to work in multiple locations. 

To be considered a candidate, the successful applicant must have the following minimum qualifications and experience:

  • Early Childhood Education Diploma required. A member in good standing with the College of ECE.
  • Experience working with families and children with ASD Diagnosis and a sound knowledge of child development.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience working with children (0-6) with developmental support needs in an early learning environment (ex: Kindergarten Classroom, Licensed Childcare Setting, EarlyON Setting, etc.)
  • Experience working with standardized screening tools, assessment measures, and/or inventories of development.
  • Experience planning and implementing developmentally appropriate programming while including modifications as needed (ex: communication tools, equipment, sensory based learning opportunities)
  • Sound knowledge of How Does Learning Happen and experiencing in an inquiry based learning environment.
  • Additional certification, training, or experience working with children with an Autism diagnosis would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication (both oral and written), listening, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate in a respectful manner with children, caregivers, collaborative partners, and the general public
  • Proven ability to deal with difficult situations in the moment and take necessary action in stressful or emergency situations.
  • Proven understanding of, and ability to maintain confidentiality at all times. 
  • Comfort with technology and an ability to quickly learn new platforms and programs
  • Proficiency in both written and verbal French Language skills is considered an asset
  • A strong knowledge of and respect for Indigenous, traditions and practices is considered an asset
  • A current, valid “G” driver’s license and access to a var to be used in the course of employment
